CLIFTON HILL - THE STREET OF FUN! By GEORGE BAILEY
2010-06-21 08:21:11
| I went for an early morning walk this morning to Clifton Hill, Niagara Falls, Canada's Street of Fun.
It’s changed a lot from its earlier days but it’s still the spot most visitors come to when they visit the falls, especially if they have children.
Clifton Hill was originally called Ferry Road because it was the street that took you to the Maid of the Mist ferries in the mid 1800’s.
In the 1920’s when camping became popular you could find Clifton Camp and Clifton Touring Camp operated by the Burland family. The family is still here and now operates a modern motel along with other attractions. Burland provided his customers with the luxury of inside facilities by driving them to washrooms located in nearby Queen Victoria Park.
Boy, have things changed!

Amanda Anyone know of any restaurants that offer gluten free menus in the niagra falls area?
Alan Hello George, compliments for your blog. I like a lot. What do you think about my site? www.bestourism.com Have a nice day.
George Alan, Looks very nice.Lots of work here.
Amanda It's almost sad that it's changed so much. Retail has become our lives. But back then, things were simple and people made family come first.
Juergen Toussaint Hello Mr. Baily, My name is Jurgen Toussaint, would you be so kind and contact me in reference to Karel Soucek´s stunt in 1984. sincerely Jurgen A. Toussaint
Derekl I have been to Niagara about three times in four years, even though I live in England. Although Niagara Falls was a bit of a shock the first time I visited, far more commercial than I expected, I love Niagara Falls. I will be there this August, I agree with Charles Dickens about the Falls, they are forever with me! Reading this Blog (George Bailey’s) about Clifton Hill, I wondered if this was the same camping/cabin area that was used in the 1953 film “Niagara”, does anyone know? Derek
George Derek, These are not the cabins used in the movie. The cabin was only a prop set in Queen Victoria Park opposite the American Falls. Once filming was completed they were removed.
Michaela Wilkerson Hey George I was wondering if you could tell me some good motorcycle routes to ride while we are there. We will be there August 7,2010 and will be touring the NY side and canadian side of Niagara Falls.
George Michaela, I don't ride a motorcycle. I sugget you contact the CAA or AAA if you are a member and they will map out a route. I know the parkways that run beside the Niagara River are flat with a few twists and turns. Good Luck.
Michaela Thank You George!
