Recently I wrote a blog about the roar of Niagara Falls. It brought to mind something that happened to me when I was a younger man in the late 1960’s.
That’s when I worked for a local radio station as a producer of a morning talk show.
One morning before the show I accepted a call from a David Letterman who told me he hosted a radio show from Ball State University in Virginia. He said he did lots of crazy things on his show. One of them was to let people know what it would be like to go on vacation to different parts of the world without actually being there. He wanted me to go to a public phone booth near the brink of the falls (they’re no longer there) and hold the receiver up so listeners could hear Niagara roar. I’m game for just about anything, so the next day I found my way to the brink of the Canadian Horseshoe Falls and did as he requested. At the same time, I described the falls. I later heard listeners couldn’t hear the roar and I sounded dumb because I was yelling into the phone. I was thinking I had to be heard over Niagara’s roar.
Anyway, this was the David Letterman that went on to host late night TV.
Does this mean I was kind of on the David Letterman Show?

Dakilang ETITS correction george, Ball State University is in MUNCIE, INDIANA and not from Virginia (trust me, we live in the outskirts of campus)...so you are one of those many victims of the old jerk Letterman's dumb pranks...ahahahay!
