About a quarter of a mile above the Canadian Horseshoe Falls in Niagara Falls, Ontario is an outlet from the Niagara River that winds through an area know as Dufferin Islands. This area consists of 14 islands. At one time there were only three islands here but after the nearby Toronto Power Plant was built at the edge of the Niagara River in 1906 the earth they took out of the ground to build the plant was added to this area to create an additional 11 islands.
During a recent early morning walk (if you use a wheelchair the stoned paths are accessible) I thought I had died and went to heaven. It was so peaceful and I had the whole place to myself. I spotted numerous new plants popping their way out of the ground and lots of colourful birds.
If you visit Niagara Falls be sure and experience this bit of heaven so close to the falls. There’s lots of free parking and few people know about this lovely spot.
