Prime Minister Stephen Harper made a whirlwind visit to Niagara Falls this past week to visit the site of the new Convention Centre which is under construction in the Fallsview area.

Serge Felicetti, Director of Business Development for the City of Niagara Falls tells me the project is on time and on budget scheduled to open in 2011.

Here's a photo I took which shows from left to right, Convention President, Kerry Painter, City Mayor Ted Salci, Rob Nicholson, Member of Parliament from Niagara Falls who is also the Attorney General, and Prime Minister Harper discussing the Centre.

Nice pic George, I'll bet you've snapped a few PMs in Niagara over the years.

Mike, Thanks for the comment. I beleive I have photographed at least five of Canada's Prime Ministers when they have visited Niagara Falls over the past years. I have donated all my Niagara material to the Niagara Falls Public Library in order that the public can have access to my material when I've left this planet.

Hi there, I'm Kristen form New Zealand, and I am doing a school project on The Niagara Falls and I was wandering if you could please answer some questions such as, How is the local community affected by living near this tourist site?(positive and negative effects) and How is the local environment affected by the presence of this tourist site and the tourists that visit?(positive and negative) thanks so much for your help(: Kristen, NZ

George
Kristen, Thanks for your post. I often get asked to assist in school projects.I am reluctant to answer these questions because they`open the door` to several other requests of this nature. The answers, to do it properly, requires research and time.Something at this time I do not have either off. I hope you understand. I do suggest you go to the educational Niagara website www.niagarafrontier.com. written by Rick Berketa. I beieve you will get most,if not all, your questions ansered here. Good Luck.

Great info on the area. My folks married there almost 50 yrs ago. Curious - where does someone from Niagara go on their honeymoon?
