NIAGARA FALLS HOTELS By GEORGE BAILEY 2010-02-16 14:48:22
| If you haven't been to Niagara Falls in the last few years are you in for a big surprise. Victor Ferrraiulo, Acting General Manager of Niagara Falls Tourism tells me there are over 16,000 (that's right, not 1,600) rooms to suit any budget, available for visitors to put their head down for the evening. That's along way from when I managed the Sheraton Foxhead Hotel in the late 1970's. At that time, there were about 1,000 rooms and most of the hotels closed during the winter months. Boy has this changed! Niagara Falls is open year-round and each month is filled with plenty of events and activities. Check out rest of this site for things to see and do. The first hotel to open in Niagara Falls was in 1822 at the Fallsview area. The Pavilion Hotel was located on the site of the current Oakes Hotel Overlooking the Falls. It was pretty classy for it's time. It was three stories high and of white clapboard construction. There was a look-out area on the roof where you could get a great view of the falls and surrounding countryside. Unfortunately, the hotel was destroyed by fire on the freezing night of February 19, 1839.

Shannon I visited the falls many years ago with my parents and me and my brother had our picture taken in a photo studio somewhere in Niagara depicting us going over the falls in a barrel. (fake of course) We are planning on visiting there possibly this summer and would like to visit the same place and have another picture taken. Can anyone tell me where this building is located to get our picture taken again? Thanks!
George Shannon, I'll have to check later today if this attraction is still around. I'll get as soon as I have an answer.
George Shannon, I've found out that the Barrel Over Niagara photo attraction is no longer operating.

Elizabeth I visited the falls last year and am returning this year. I saw a horse and carriage ride along the fall and would like to know where I can go to take a ride on it this year.
