The world famous Maid of the Mist opens for the 2011 season of operation on Wednesday, May 4th.
This opening is three-and-a half weeks later than last year’s opening because of the long winter. Before the Maid can be launched, the lower Niagara River below the falls has to be completely free of river ice.
Four Maid of the Mist boats will continue to operate daily during daylight hours until the middle of October. Two of the vessels operate from the U.S. side of the border and the other two from the Canadian side.
The Maid of the Mist has been plying the waters below Niagara Falls since 1846.
