Niagara Falls Canada's new 105 million dollar, 288,000 square foot convention centre which has been in the making for the past three years opens it doors this Friday free of charge for the Greater Niagara Home and Garden show. The show runs until Sunday April 10th.
The Scotiabank Convention Centre is one of only 19 similar centres in Canada. The convention centre site is surrounded by upscale hotel rooms within a one mile radius, along with numerous dining, retail and entertainment facilities, including the one billion dollar Fallsview Casino Resort.
I can remember not to long ago playing baseball in the big open field above the falls where the centre and large 900 car parking lot is now located.
Another note worthy event took place in the same area on August 28th, 1872 when famous gun fighter William “Wild Bill” Hickok conducted a staged Buffalo Hunt that attracted 3,000 spectators.
Things have changed a lot over the last 140 years.
