NIAGARA ON-THE-LAKE By GEORGE BAILEY

| I took a fifteen minute drive today north of Niagara Falls along the picturesque Niagara Parkway to the pretty little village of Niagara on the Lake. It's located at the northern end of the Niagara River at the mouth of Lake Ontario.
This village has lots of "firsts". Here's a few of them. -It's the location of the initial session of the first parliament of Upper Canada(now Ontario).
- It was the location of Ontario's first library,Court House(shown here),post office and two of the first churches in Canada.
- It's the birthplace of the Law Society of Upper Canada.
Niagara on the Lake today is known as the home of the world-famous (yes,it really is) Shaw Festival. Established in 1961, this is the only theatre company that specializes in plays written by George Bernard Shaw and his contemporaries.
At this time of the year there's an excellent series of films being shown on Saturday afternoon in the Shaw Festival Theatre.
