Located at the foot of busy Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls, Canada is an outdoor amphitheatre that has been an oasis of tranquility since September 1938.
This fan-shaped outdoor garden takes advantage of the contours of the sloping ground with a stage placed where the panorama of the Falls forms a natural backdrop. There is a curved pergola connecting two open pavilions. In front is a broad lawn, with sloping terraces, rock gardens, shrubbery surrounded by an ornamental stone wall. Behind the garden is a Japanese Garden where a small bridge crosses over a lily pond.
Oakes Garden Theatre was laid out using parks staff and apprentices from the School of Apprentice Gardeners (School of Horticulture) on the lower Niagara Parkway which had opened a few years earlier.
Today this is a popular place for wedding ceremonies and live shows.
Here’s a photo I took a few weeks ago to tease you. When you’re in Niagara Falls be sure to put this on your must-visit list.
