I recently visited Old Fort Erie with my granddaughter at the southern end of the beautiful Niagara Parkway in Fort Erie about 21 kilometres from Niagara Falls.
This Niagara Parks Commission attraction has recently undergone a major upgrading. The new interpretive centre is a great addition to this popular long time attraction. Before you enter inside the fort there’s a superb 13 minute movie that explains the role the fort played in the War of 1812.There are also plenty of top-notch displays that contain artifacts discovered at the site.
Improvements still continue inside the fort but you can still, “feel” what it was like to be a soldier during this bloody conflict between the United States and Britain.
My 12 year old granddaughter, Megan was particularly intrigued by the kitchen and surgeons quarters that contained pots and pans and medical instruments of that time.
Old Fort Erie remains open daily during the summer.

George Bailey Tania, I'm pretty sure the answer is no. The people to have answer this question is United States Customs. Check out their web-site.
Lyne DeBroux I would like to comment on my recent visit to Niagara Falls. I’ll start with the positive aspect. The bus system in place is really great and really makes it simpler to take the bus than having to drive around in search of an expensive parking space. Now for the negative side: while visiting on August 3rd and 4th 2011, we decided to stay another night in order to see the fireworks after having called to make sure that the fireworks were still taking place that evening. As you are no doubt aware, the rates at all hotels are more expensive on Friday probably because of the fireworks and the fact that it’s considered “weekend”. But since it is such an attraction, we decided it was still worth the extra cash. So that night, we walked down from Clifton Hill around 9h30 pm, along with thousands and thousands of people in order to reserve a place to get a good view of the falls and fireworks and waited… and waited… and waited… for over an hour. NOTHING?!?!? It was a beautiful night, not much wind, no rain, therefore NO VALID REASON to cancel the fireworks… We lost a good hour of touring the Clifton Hill area and were really disappointed and pissed off. Everyone was saying how frustrated they were, especially the ones with small children… Finally, at 10h30 pm we made our way back up the Clifton Hill feeling our evening wasted and left a bitter taste to our vacation in Niagara Falls… I just can’t believe that in this age of technology, the organization could not have posted signs or even had a police car with a microphone advise the many tourists not to wait for nothing… I felt like the Niagara Falls city DID NOT CARE about the tourists who spend a fortune making the city live and prosper and what it is today. Just keep in mind that WE PAY YOUR SALARIES! You should therefore take more care of the people touring your area… We spent a lot of money while touring Niagara Falls, but needless to say, I will definitely NOT be back. Been there and done that!
