Here are a few little known facts about two media firsts that occurred at Niagara Falls.
Television history was made on Sunday, September 12th, 1948 when the first live television broadcast on WBEN-TV (now WIVB), showed the American and Canadian Falls, the Rainbow Bridge and the Maid of the Mist. Cameras were placed on the eleventh floor of the then General Brock Hotel (now Park Plaza Hotel) in Canada and telecast to the Statler Hotel in downtown Buffalo. This was the first international telecast ever made in America.
On Christmas Eve, 1935 Niagara's roar was heard world-wide when a microphone was placed in the furthermost portal behind the Table Rock Scenic Tunnels (now known as the Journey behind the Falls). This special Christmas radio broadcast let the world hear for the first time hear the sound of water falling over the falls. It was a roaring success!
