I've just received from a friend, John Phipps in England a rare photograph taken at the top of Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls in 1923. The attached photo shows a single electric street car of the Niagara Falls Park and River Railway. The railway operated from 1892 until 1932 between the ferry docks at Queenston to Chippawa. It was a twelve mile route.
The second photo was taken in 1927 shows the east side of Clifton Hill. The Tourist Camp was operated by the Burland Family who still offer more modern accommodations and they also operate attractions in the location shown in the photo.
P.S. No date has yet been announced of the Wallenda tightrope walk over the falls. Stay tuned.
Thank you for these historical shots - very helpful! Best wishes from Germany
Thank you Alex, Here'sd abit more about the first photo. The building behind the car was known as the Victoria Station. It was renovated many years later to become the Houdini Magical Hall of Fame. The attraction was accidentally burned down on April 30,1995.I can rem, eber being there when the fire raged.
That red head is really good lonoikg. Your magazi
That red head is really good lonoikg. Your magazine is just awesome.Chinese loves red. You see red packets inserted with money given to all the children during such Chinese New Year. All the decorations are in red too including the fire crackers. Red flowers are popular with the Chinese. Red is the right color to wear during festive seasons and celebrations. I tend to break the rule and wore black for my wedding dinner. Red has an auspicious connotation.
I can not resist red, and when I order patlns for
I can not resist red, and when I order patlns for spring, I have to stop myself from ordering nothing but red flowering things lobelia cardinalis, a pretty red rose, red dahlias, a very dark red dianthus called, of all things, Heart Attack, a strawberry red gomphrena . I always have to seriously edit my plant choices before my whole garden looks like Cupid and The Devil. The magazine looks great.
